What should I say to get him to stay?

My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year now. We tend to argues a lot, but when we get along we REALLY get along. I love being with him. He makes me so happy, but when we fight I feel like he doesn't care about me because he says some pretty mean and nasty things. He has had a problem with trusting me for a while now. And, I can't lie, I do somethings he has asked me not to do (ex: he doesn't want me to talk to boys, but at work there are men and we do converse). About two days ago he found out that I lied about some where I went with one of my friends (it was a female). Even though it was small he said that he didn't know if we could be together anymore. I have told him like 20 times that I would never lie to him again, and this time he doesn't want to hear it anymore. But there is a difference in my promising not to lie now, I realizw that I cannot be without him. I love him entirely too much to lose him over a stupid lie. I swear I want to be honest with him. But he doesn't know if he wants to go back out with me again. What can I say to make things better and convince him that I am serious this time?

It is hard when you care that much about someone to see the "forest from the trees" as the cliche' goes... You lied because he would not understand or want the truth that you are not a pet, but a human and can talk to anyone you choose. If someone tells you not to speak to __???_____(Fill in the blank with any group that you want) they are insecure and controlling, right? and you would not want them as a friend? Because it is your boyfriend you cease believing in your right to free will? Normal social behavior? Be glad you only dated a year. To answer your request - you should say to him "thank you" for showing me that I want to be with someone who can handle the truth.
