What should i get my boyfriend for xmas?

I was thinking about getting my man an Xbox 360 or a PS3 but I haven't a clue about video games. Which one should I buy? He has a PS2 right now and I want this to be a complete surprise.

Is there a best friend who might know a good game he doesn't have ?....if not maybe maybe talk to the salespersons in the electronics area at Best Buy / Circuit City, etc and ask what the most popular are (you might make a list of the ones he has so you don't duplicate, plus the list might give the salesperson an idea of the types of games he likes

As far as Xbox 360 vs PS3 I'm not sure, but I believe PS3 runs $500 - $600
