What's with religion

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 21 answers.

I don't think Christianity is the right religion, but every one gets mad at me because of that so why, why should I be a christian there are a lot of religions out there why should I have to be christian?

I There's no such thing as religion. In my opinion. I just think it's all a type of cult thing. They tell you how to live and all that stuff. Which to me, is kinda...odd and a bit crazy. (I believe in God (for various reasons), but not religion)
Theres no consequences to deciding on being a christian or not. It's a belief...what people think. It's not like you're going to get struck by lightening or burn in hell or something like that. Just believe in what you want to believe. Whatever makes you happy. Not what other people tell you.

You don't have to. I am a Christian but that doesn't make me mad at you. Do what ever you want, we have free will.

I promise to not get mad at you. I spent the first 38 years of my life trying to defeat the claims of Christianity. I finally couldn't sustain my own objections to it. I took a fairly rigorous approach to investigating religions of the world. It was only after doing a lot of investigation into Buddhism that I thought I had gotten sort of far enough away from the Christianity in the culture around me that I could look at it with some objectivity.

Then three things happened to me: I went on a mission trip to chaperon a Methodist youth group, and spent a week camping with a minister. We argued for a week and I never even fazed him.

I bought a Bible and found the verse in Mark where a father says to Jesus, I believe, help me overcome my unbelief. The footnote in my Bible said, Since belief and un-belief are often mixed... , and I thought I could do that I could take one step based on faith and learn more as I go (Buddhism taught me that.)

And I re-read C. S. Lewis' Mere Christianity and Hans Kung's On Being a Christian.

I finally realized that it was taking as much faith (belief not based on proof) to maintain my atheism as it would take to begin an honest inquiry into what would the world be like if there was a creator God who had made an attempt to reach out to us.

I prayed a prayer that began, God, if you are really there... Then something changed in my mind. I don't expect it to mean anything to anyone else, but it is real to me. If you're still interested, send me a funmail and I'll go into more detail.

people are arseholes...mostly Christians??? Really? You might need to associate with a different group of people for a while. But, on behalf of my brothers and sisters in Christ, I apologize for not representing the love of God to you. Please forgive us.

The good news (or hard reality, depending on your perspective) is that God loves you and has a claim on your life. I like the notion that religion is man's attempt to reach God, but Christianity is God's attempt to reach man.

I hope you will stay open to the possibility of changing your mind when it makes sense to you.

I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but by it I see everything else.

shut up already iamblessed
you don't follow ALL the bible, so does that mean you reject it?
Jews hindues follow it more closley than most people who claim to be christain believe it or not.
campapa, out of all the biblical religions out there what makes you think Christanity is the one he reaches out in?

Seriously people are tunnel vision by creed, but don't get sucked in like them. It's going to be hard but you're going to have to rise above it, don't get blinded by anger, though that may be hard too(I talk from persnoal experiance on that part). Just be who you are people who cannot accept that ignore.

You may think its the wrong religion; not because of its doctrines, but because of how screwed up and divided some of the PEOPLE are, who claim to be a part of it. You might've noticed we have a few dancing around here. It doesn't mean ALL Christians are deluded; you just have to find the right kind.

Religion abuse is more common than drug abuse.

thex13thxchild, I believe it because Christianity works for me and it makes everything else make sense to me.

See nevets815's quote from C. S. Lewis. That's exactly what I mean.

I know full well that some Christian's don't represent our faith well. That's one of the reasons I resisted it so long. I finally understood that the truth can be known to people who don't live it out perfectly. I honestly don't think I am guilty of tunnel vision. I lookd long and hard to find the narrow gate.

God loves you and the life and death of Jesus is evidence of it. Christianity doesn't claim that no other system of belief contains any truth. Christianity claim to be the fulfillment for all the seekers of the Truth.

You do not have to be a Christian! You can be anything you want to be, preferably you choose to be a good person and do good things for others, but beyond that, what you believe in your mind and heart is up to you and is not anyone else's business or concern.
Peace!

So, it's our choice... but you're still going to try to scare us into making the same choices you make? That's some 'choice' we have...

what is wrong wit being a christian?? I mean really, you don't want to be christ like, why? im a christian and proud of it, im not mad but I do think its a bad choice, and like amblessed said, its a choice, however all choices have consequences, good and bad, you choose, im not trying to get you to believe the same you dont have to be christian however, you do need a religion that believes in god and his power and his blood, believes the rapture and salvation...theres other religions beside christianity that believes in it, I think its funny how people run from the truth in everything, I dont understand it, but anyways like I said, you dont have to be in the christianity to believe in god, theres other religions that do, but its your choice, just dont make the wrong one

You may love Jesus, but here's what he thinks of you.

Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother- in-law...
...Matthew 10:34

'But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'
...Luke 19:27

And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one.
...Luke 22:36

Do you think I have to come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother- in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in- law.
...Luke 12:51

And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating.
...Luke 12:47

If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
...Luke 14:26

Do you think I have to come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother- in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in- law.
...Luke 12:51

Save you speech sweety, I know the bible just as much if not more than any Christain. Those who have actually read understand it wouldn't be part of it. It has one of the darkiest past in history. But hey, whatever works for you, just don't preach to me about it. It's the same stpry for every one their religion reached out to me, it's turth, yada yada. Claim it as your truth nothing further for no one really knows what truth.

You cannot base your decision on what others say or don't say about you or to you, this is a decision that you have to make for yourself.

I would urge you to seek the God of the bible.
