Hi,

The name of Guadalajara, Mexico came because it was named after Guzman's native land. Nuno Beltran de Guzman was the person who began the expidition that discovered the land. His goal was to unite all the existing lands between the Pacific and the Gulf in one sub-kingdom that would bear the name "Conquista del Espiritu Santo de la Mayor Espana" ("Conquest of the Holy Spirit of Greater Spain".

Hope that helps.
