I agree. It's also the most complex to play and requires constant updating of technique. You can not ever get bored playing it.
I listen to almost everything except Country, Disco, and Techno and even in these categories I make a few exceptions.
To me the best genre of music is Bebop. There is nothing like the complex soaring solos of John Coltrane or the cool pensive solos of Miles Davis (at least until he started doing fusion crap).
I grew up on Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, The Eurythymics. Hated the 70s..loved the 80s, hated the 90s...
In all genres (except New Age) there is good music and there is bad. Being surrounded by music at home, and having a recording studio, I've come to appreciate good music that's not derivative, formula based or mediocre, whether classical, country or jazz Even amidst the classical geniuses of the 1700's. you can hear the equivalents of the talentless and prolific artists of today. Georg Philip Telemann was the Andrew Lloyd Webber of the 18th century. Nonstop drivel.
Now I listen to mostly classical, trying to understand and appreciate jazz, and I still love my Roxy Music too. Have learned a lot about Johnny Cash and Buck Owens lately too, and am amazed at how different my outlook is on that compared to what I'd have been receptive to 20 years ago.
Rock, Punk Rock, Alternative, screamo, and classic rock.

What's the best genre of music?
I absolutely love rock, it's the best there is. It has so much history and lots of classics that even rappers like.
