i like fountains. Asked by melovesyouu 8 months ago, 10 answers.

Okay, when you are a playing along with someone just to make them happy, what is it called?
For instance, if someone came up to you and started freaking out that world was ending, and you went along with it even though you thought it was crazy, what is...

the word for what you are doing?
I am writing a short story and I need that word, but I can't think of it and its driving me insane!

Only think I can come up with is playing along because you're playing along with their story.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find something.

Patronize?
It means to act as a patron:provide aid or support for; to adopt an air of condescension toward.

I think it is placate rather than patronize. Placate means to soothe or pacify, whereas patronize means to treat in a condescending manner.

Using the example you gave, placate is the word.

Condescend:

1. To descend to the level of one considered inferior; lower oneself.

2. To deal with people in a patronizingly superior manner.

        Simply a Rose to brighten your day,
        And maybe lessen the cares in your way;
        And also, too, to help you to know,
        That in knowing you, many others grow!
