Okra are small, mild, slender green vegetable pods, about 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) in length, with crisp outer flesh. When cooked, okra releases a viscous substance that can serve as a thickening agent. This is a lot of times deep fried and served!
Yes, Okra is a vegetable. It is used a lot in Southern Cooking. Battered and deep fried, it is very good. Okra and tomatoes is another good dish. It is also used in stews. I had never even heard of it until I moved to MO. It has to be picked when small, only 2 or 3 inches in length because as it gets larger, it gets very hard and stringy.
LOL @ the comment above mine...
<P>Yes, it is a vegetable. You can google it and look at the images. You can buy them frozen in your local market at the area where they have frozen fruits and vegtables.
What is okra?
Seriously, what the heck is okra? It is a vegetable, right? But what is it like?
