What is my religion called?

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 18 answers.

I don't know what my religion is. I don't think I beleive in God, but I do beleive in something. I don't beleive a word of the bible and I don't beleive in heaven or hell. Is there a name for that?

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question

agnostic.

agnostic means you are someone who believes in the idea of there being a higher..being (aka a god of some sort), but believes that there can be no proof, and you are not confined to one set religion.

Sounds like we're very similar. Something I found is that you don't have to be a certain religion or have certain beliefs. No one is right.. and no one is wrong. The main thing is to stay by your beliefs.. whatever they are. I call mine morals. I have certain beliefs in things and other things I don't believe in. That's okay.

There are 7 major religions in the world.. each are similar in more ways than most people realize. One of the religions is Taoism, not sure if you've heard of it or not (it's pronounced Dow-ism). Check out some books on it.. here's some links:

All kinds of books on Taoism: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-2635167-1061654?url=search-alias%3Dapsfield-keywords=taoism

Basic book on Taoism: http://www.amazon.com/Tao-Te-Ching-Lao-Tse/dp/9562910288/ref=pd_bbs_5?ie=UTF8s=booksqid=1200973101sr=8-5

The best way I can sum up the Tao Te Ching is a book of 81 poems on how to live your life. Its not a book saying you have to live your life this specific way or you are going to suffer in hell forever, its just a book to make you realize your own beliefs inside yourself and to be happy with that.

Mb,
I'm not sure you can call your belief in something a religion. Religions have rituals. Most religions believe in a God or Gods. Bhuddism does not believe in a God.
You should look up the word agnostic...
Good luck,

You would fall under the category of Agnostic, which isn't a Religion but a belief since there is no organization for it. An Atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a higher power (whereas you do), so you're not an Atheist.

Consider Deism. Deists believe in a God that reveals itself through nature. Deists don't believe in miracles or prophacy and they believe that God started the universe and then left it to run on its own accord. Deists do not view science or reason as things that compete with religion; they see them as ways to more completely understand and appreciate God.

Deism hit its peak in the 17th and 18th century. Several of America's founding fathers were desits. Thomas Paine wrote the book The Age of Reason about Desim. Benjamin Franklin and Ethan Allen were Deists while George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe spoke favorably of Deism though never specifically labeling themselves deist. After the 18th century Deism died out but many of its ideas found parallels in Unitarian and Universalist churches.

That's nonsense - clearly there's a right answers and wrong ones; it's just not possible to be 100% certain about what those are.

And staying to your beliefs no matter what is irrational - you should always be prepared to change your beliefs if you're presented with evidence that they're wrong.

Filet, I would agree with the Deists on a coupl of points. They say that God is revealed thru nature. The bible itself says that the proof of God is all around us, leaving us without any excuse for not recognizing his existance. He is not nature, he created nature. The intricacies of nature are such that, anyone that gives it a thought, realizes that nothing about it, happened by itself, that it had to have intelligent design behind it.

I do also agree with the statement that God created the universe and then left it to run on its own. I belive he did just that. He placed everything in motion, created harmony, made it so that everything was able to multiply and replace itself. The act of creation is no longer needed, he did this once, and now, everything is self sustaining. I also believe that the forces of nature can be manipulated bringing about the severe weather that we are experiencing. Mans explanation is called global warming. Gods explantion is Satans manipulation.

Silver, good discussion of some of the similarities and differences between Deism and Christainity. One of the ways Deists look at God as The Divine Watchmaker; they see God as the creater of the universe but now it is left to run on its own.

I wasn't trying to promote Deism or disparage Christianity (not here anyway wink ), just trying to help with a label to the beliefs that mb789 expressed.

Most people in your position call themselves one of the following:

- Deist
- Pantheist
- Atheist

I just call myself an atheist. It's simpler.

well maybe you should try reading the quran. It is mathematically coded, which means that if one letter or word was replaced, it would not work! No one other than GOD could have created this. go to http://www.quranalone.com Read the quran that Rashad Kalifa translated (the latest messenger of GOD) The Quran has the answer to all problems! Anything you would need is in there! I repeat, READ THE ONE TRANSLATED BY RASHAD. All other translaters transLITTERATED it, not transLATED it. And besides, Rashad is the only messenger to transLATE it. so why would you read one transLITTERATED by a no one?
try it. trust me you will be inspired...

Erm. Mathematically coded? It wouldn't work with any letters replaced? What exactly does that mean? In what way would it not work?

And how is it that it can have the same property in English as well as the original Arabic? And what makes this particular translation so special?

It's not agnostic - that's a position of knowledge NOT belief.

If you do not belief there is a god - you are an atheist.

If you belief there is a god, but he does not meddle in the affairs of the universe - you are a deist.

If you belief the universe (or the earth, or nature) IS god - you are a pantheist.
