A nationality. Someone from the country Japan will be Japanese.

Asian will be the ethnicity of most people living in Japan.

It is a nationality... however the word 'Nation's modern connotation differs from its original. Originally a nation of people described those individuals who shared a common culture and ethnicity. Now the term is used to describe diverse members of a political state.

The Ainu people of Japan embody a seperate ethnic group from the majority Yamato people on the main island. Other native ethnic groups in Japan include the: Ryukyuans... Nivkhs... Ulta. Ethnic Koreans and Chinese constitute the largest minority immigrant groups in Japan.
