english is a type of riding. there is also western. in english your legs are higher up because the stirrups are higher up. you also jump in english, in western you don't. in english you also post, which is lifting yourself out of the saddle, in western you don't post. basically it is just the style of riding. also western is more what you see in movies, the saddle has a horn on it unlike in english.
irishgirly is wrong..in western you can jump and post .The other stuff she said is true .English riding is what you see in horse races.I do western riding . In english you have your legs touching the horses sides and your knees up.Also the stirups(what you put your feet in) are high up and in western they are low.
yah. you both are right, tho. I wouldnt say either of you are wrong, but irish girly is right in that you don't GENERALLY post or jump in western. it is done. I ride both western and english. and I do post and jump in both my western and english saddle. it's just not preffered to jump in western saddle and you DO NOT post in western shows. you get points docked off for doin that. And if you were to wear a western saddle into a jumping show theyd kick you out.
Ya thats exactly what I ment. I know that you can jump and post in Western but usually it is not done. I also ride both english and western and it is much more comfortable for me to post and jump in an english saddle than in a western saddle.
you can post and jump in western I do it.
