What is emo?

Like when people say they are emo what does this mean?

EMO IS WHEN you SLICE THE INSIDE OF your WRIST-most of the time
you generally have ebony hair that covers 3/4 of your face
or they just simply listen to depressing(emo) music!!!

Emo describes a music inspired movement, of people who generally arnt that happy. (thats what people perseve with it anyway)

the music tends to be whining about something. its not nessesarly depressing, Unless you've only heard some songs.

emo's amixture between goth and the jrock movement. Although this is my own intepetation of it. Emos are basically Goths that are style concious. Tendy rockers if you will.

Un like punks who dress to shock or goths that wear what they like. Emos are more concious about there cloths and there hair looking good.

Im not sure if ACtualy emos agree with this but meh im not having a go or anything

It means they are struggling to be themselves, and follow a crowd of people that dress like funeral service attendants.

the EMO is derived from emotional. im not sure as to what the style itself was derived from, but, as you may know, they tend to be very solemn [acting at times] people. they put off an emotionally damaged persona. mostly going to be that.

emo means emotional rocker. and no, they don't slit their wrists lol

it is a style of music . style in clothing ... ... and it doesnt mean you slit your wrists, or that your all depressed all the time gonecrazy your need to check the meaning of emo because you are clearly miss informed on it.
