What is a redneck?

What is a redneck? sry if that sounds kinda stupid, but I have always wondered.

A redneck is pretty much a stereo type. Just picture a Texan type person with a cowboy hat and boots, a sunburnt face, drives a Ford F-250 truck, and has an IQ of around 75.

A redneck is someone from the midland south or midatlantic region with blood ties to lowland Scotland or the borderlands of northern England. The redneck was once associated with the symbolic act of dipping a neckerchief in blood and draping around ones neck in order to show loyalty to the covenanters... or Presbyterian loyalists at odds with King Charles' tyrannical attempt to control religious customs. It came to symbolize stubborness in these particular people that were some of the first to emigrate to the then British colonies. These same people were supporters of William of Orange's bid to the British thrown. They came to be called Billy's boys... and once in the interior regions of the colonies and quarelling with settlers from different parts of Britain were regarded as Hillbillys... again a slander for being too set in their ways. Last but not least... the term "cracker" originated with the same folk. The label stems from a Scots word...(CRAIK)... and was intended for any braggart.
