You get a bruise from leakage of blood from capillaries under the surface that have been damaged

When the capillaries, which are the smallest veins, are broken due to injury if the tissue (u get punched in the arn). Those capillaries break and the blood deposits in the tissue where you were punched) and causes the discoloration. As the blood is reabsorbed back into the tissuea, the bruise heals and goes away.
