What does solving equations mean?

An equation is an unknown. Eg 4x=20. You need to work out what x is. X usuallyu stands for a times so 4 x something equals 20

Solving equations mean that you would have to figure out the answer from the equation (e.g. 3 x 2) That is an equation. So [3 x 2 = 6.]

An equation is simply a statement, usually made with numbers and symbols, that two things are equal.

For example, the simple equation 2 + 3 = 5 states that when the numbers on the left-hand side (I.e. 2 and 3) are combined using the addition operation, the result is equal to the number 5.

I just finished doing these in my maths class, an equation is finding out the value of a letter that has been substiuted in from another number. eg. (3x = 21) equation, you want to find what x is so you have a solid number for an answer, the answer would be 3x = 21
divide by 3 by 3 b/c x meens times (your doing the opposite)
divide BOTH sides by 3 equal
x = 7
