What does it mean when someone says "I took you for granted

What does it mean when someone says “I took you for granted” like give me the definition or use it in a sentence or what does the word granted mean I’ve always been so confused with this word

Answer #1

I guess it’s kinda like not appreciating them, kinda like using them, likee if your friend just got a car and you called her a lot and wanted to do stuff, it would be taking her for granted.

Answer #2

Granted means to transfer formally or to give possession of.

When someone has been “taken for granted” it usually refers to someone not appreciating someone else because you’ve assumed they will always be around to help you.

For example, a lot of people take their parents for granted.

I agree with Gorgous’s interpretation..

“taking someone for granted” in a relationship would be doing things you always wanted to do and not worrying about the consequences as the person is always going to be there to help you out.

Eg: If I have a girls night out and got really drunk, I know my fella will come and collect me from the venue… ( I am now taking my boyfriend “for granted” as I know he will drive out there and pick me up) :)
