Yes, for that just get a cheap current netbook. That is if you want or are on the go a lot... If money's not much of an issue for you and you want a big PC screen and a keyboard... go with a gateway, dell, alienware, etc.

A netbook usually has a video output.. if it's s-video you can plug it into your tv and buy a wireless keyboard and mouse... or if it's vga you can plug it into a nice LCD pc screen and use your USB keyboard and mouse. either way... netbook is one of the cheapest and most convenient routes atm.. but if you'd rather have a desktop... you can go for an emachine to save tons of money.

WHen you say extras... depends what you want... most anything you need you can buy and download off the program's website. Most Vista and Windows 7 machines will have extras on them catered to their respective audience / demographic.

For writting poems. essay's, school work, pretty much every consumer computer has those functions built in... which is the best... really depends on how you feel about it when you get it.

Woah, if you're going to be typing a lot then don't get a netbook! It may be cheap but the endless typing will really suck. Get a notebook it's lightweight, they can also be cheap and they also have larger screens to read from. Think about ergonomics before you purchase a computer that has nothing to do with your needs.
