When they say you need to drink 8 cups of water a day, does that refer to 8 standard glasses or 8 measured cups?

It's not 8 'cups', it's 8 glasses.

but even so, most people dont need 8 glasses of water
usually they just need around 6
and then some people need more

I always thought the science behind that was a bit shoddy, that they never really had any proper evidence for it. But anyway surely a glass size varies dramatically! Sounds silly to me, I'd just make sure you're well hydrated

The common wisdom is 8 (8 ounce) glasses...

But yeah, there is no scientific proof backing that up, a lot of our water comes from food... But drinking that much isnt exactly going to hurt
