Was laura bush also critical of president bush?

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

May 5, 2008 (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush urged Myanmar's military rulers on Monday to accept a U.S. disaster response team that so far has been kept out, saying it would clear the way for broader relief in the wake of a devastating cyclone.
And I...

urge the Myanmar government to accept aid from the United States and from the entire international community right now while the needs of their people are so critical.

when...
the U.S. refused Russia's offer of help after Katrina, allowing four jets containing special evacuation equipment, medical equipment and a water cleansing system plus a rescue helicopter BK-117 and two special cars; also passenger aircraft IL-62, which would bring 10 coordinators and 50 rescuers, as well as 6 tons of drinking water to sit on a runway near Moscow for an entire week before allowing them to land in the U.S.
and...
Over 1,500 doctors, 26 tons of medicines and medical equipment from Cuba waited to be allowed to help. They were refused.

I wonder if Mrs. Bush criticized her husband for refusing help when the citizens of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast needed help?

With the hardline Bush has taken with the myanmar government, basically calling for regime change, it is not that surprising that they are worried about letting the US in. I am not saying I think we would use the opportunity to do something like that (but I wouldn't put anything past the shrub), but I can understand their ambivalance to letting american planes and personell in their country. It is a shame that politics is getting in the way of helping people who are in such need.

I agree. to deny relief in cases of human suffering based on political agendas is a horrible action.
when I heard laura bush criticizing the current myanmar government for not allowing the u.s. in, it brought back memories of katrina and our refusal to accept aid from those not supportive of our agenda.

mrs. bush can't see the forest for the trees...

Well yes, we know how in the dark Bush women are kept. Remember Barbara's comments about the people who, after losing everthing in Katrina, were evacuated to the astrodome.

And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them.

Laura is just as clueless.

Bush accepting aid from Cuba and Russia would be tantamount to the world's richest country admitting that it can't take care of its own citizens.

Think of the propaganda value Cuba and Russia would get from this.

I'm sure to Bush it is far more important to save face than to help the people of New Orleans.

true, true. how sad.

bush stated that he wouldn't accept aid (drs, water, etc.) but that he would accept money.

hmm you realize Bush probably would have said the same thing without realizing he was being a hypocrite?
