Wanting to get pregnant. but have epilepsy.

(: Asked by tawni 10 months ago, 6 answers.

Okaa I want to have a baby.
I'm aware that I'm young for that. (16)
My boyfriend is okaa with having one.
And we're engaged. So it's fine.

So we've kinda tried..
But the thing is that I have epilepsy.

And the medication I take could make my...

baby not develop all the way.
Like the spine might not grow the all the
way and be connected or something like that.

My doctor gave me a perscription for fulic acid which is a vitamin.
But my grandma (I live with her) won't get it filled cause she doesn't have the money.
And I would have to have that kind of vitamin for it to work.
What should I do?
I can't tell her that I plan on having a baby.
Because that would make everything go wrong.
I'm going to do it with out her knowing until I actually get prego..

Live your life without the worry of money for a little bit longer. Don't have a baby, have fun, and quit rushing adulthood.

You are only 16 years old! Why in the hell are you trying to get pregnant. To begin with I don't care what you say about your boyfriend wanting one. The statistic of a teenage couple staying together after they have a child - is less than 20 percent. Having a baby puts a HUGE strain on a relationship and almost all teenage relationships are not able to handle that.

Also, your not old enough to work or drive. A baby the first year cost 10,000 dollars, that is NOT including the medical bills and doctor bills. Where are you going to find 10,000 dollars? Even with a minimum wage job you will not make that much money. You dont have health insurance (a pregnancy is not covered on your parents health insurance) and doctor visits can cost as much as 200 every time you see them (which is once a month and every week in the third trimester). Then you have the hospital bill - mine was 9,000 dollars for my delivery.

I'm sick of young girls turning something as beautiful as pregnancy and childbirth into a huge joke. You should not be trying for a baby right now, who is going to take care of it? Dont say your parents - they did their job by raising you - it's not their responsibility to raise your child. How are you going to pay for child care, a crib, medical bills, formula, baby food, cereal, clothes, towels, wipes, diapers, blankets, a stroller, a car seat, medicine, etc. You are not thinking clearly my dear.

Here's some information on the pregnancy, birth, and after also. It's all 100 percent true and not even close to everything..

The Pregnancy:
-the swollen body parts that ache
-the constipation
-the hemmroids
-the aching breast
-the not being able to get up of the sofa by yourself
-the strechmarks
-the morning (allday) sickness
-the kicks the baby gives to your ribs
-the frequent urination
-the constant pap smears
-the blood work
-Wanting to eat everything in sight
-The bad teeth - a lot of pregnant women's calcium get's sucked out during pregnancy, you have to take your vitamins and take care of your teeth.
You need to be taking prenatal vitamins daily also. It's not only important for your baby's health, but for yours also. A child sucks the nutrients out of you and you need those vitamins to keep yourself healthy.

The Birth:
-Your pushing something the size of a watermelon out of something the size of a pea.
-You are most likely going to tear, sometimes from front to back.
-You get stitches.
-You get poked in the back for the epidural
-The epidural usually just takes the contractions away not the pressure
-The pressure is a whole different kind of pain, imagine all your intestines, trying to escape from your vagina.
-The contrations are like period cramps times a million.
-The nurses are coming in every 30 seconds, to stick their fingers in you to check for dialation, give you a catheter to drain the pee out of you, and to poke around down there.
-You can not eat or drink the ENTIRE time you are in labor. All you get is ice chips.
-There the ring of fire, as they call it when the baby's head crowns, it really does feel like your vagina is on fire and ripping!
-90 percent of women take a crap while they are pushing the baby out, you can't stop this from happening.

After the Birth:
-Then afterwards, you have the fun adventure of bleeding for up to 6 weeks. The first time you get up out of the hospital bed after giving birth, blood and fluid gushes from your vagina all over the floor.
-You'll most likely pass blood clots after giving birth too. If you dont get to the bathroom fast enough, they can fall down your pantsleg.
-Dont forget, no tampons! Only big nasty pads for the next 6 weeks!
-Your breast will be engored and sore and will leak milk from anywhere from 1 week to 3 months. It is painful and you have to wear bra pads in order to keep from leaking through to your shirt.

I think you've been watching too many movies Hun, but this is the real world! No 16 yr old can raise a baby on their own, and if they had enough sense, they would realize that! Girls who feel an overwheming need to have a child at such a young age are usually very insecure, have low self esteem and in most cases would benefit from some counselling.
Have you thought of where you would live? How you are going to pay for all the baby stuff? If your boyfriend leaves you, not too many other guys are going to want to hook up with a 16 year old with a kid. You need to do a lot more thinking about this, I know babies are cute and sweet, but it is very difficult to actually raise one when you are so young yourself. I would suggest that you get a dog. Dogs are very loving and you can still live your own life.

As far as being engaged at 16...To most sane people, the word engaged means that you're literally planning a wedding. It means you're picking out a dress, a date, a florist, and a reception hall. It means you're very seriously considering marriage in the the very near future and making plans for it.

Your still a child, stop trying to grow up so fast, and enjoy your youth!!

I'm going to go around the pregnancy at 16 issue, as it's been dealt with very well by the others users who answered your question.

The issue at hand here seems to be your epilepsy and pregnancy.

I'm epileptic and I had 3 healthy, normal children.
My friend is epileptic and also had 3 healthy, normal children.

ANYONE who is pregnant should consider taking Folic Acid - it's for the baby's benefit and has nothing to do with the epilepsy or your medication.

However, you do need to let your doctor know if you are planning to get pregnant so he can monitor your medication (since I don't know what one you are taking) and make sure it's safe for prenatal use.
