Calories from food are changed to glucose by your body for energy. If you don't burn it up fairly quickly it is converted into glycogen, which is kind of like stand by energy. If glycogen isn't used for a while it is converted to fat. So yes any extra calories you don't burn off will eventually become fat.

Do calories really matter?
Calories. If you eat more in a day then you burn off, you'll gain weight? I don't think that's true, I lost like 50 pounds this summer. As long as you exercise and don't overeat, and eat too many fatty foods, you should be okay right?
