Virtual memory is low

Hi! Asked by frosty 8 months ago, 1 answer.

Now and then a bubble pops up on my computer telling me that my virtual memory is low. Should I be concerned about this?

Yes. Virtual memory is space on the hard drive that is put aside by Windows to kind of act like RAM. It helps Windows run, as temporary files, currently used files and so on are stored there for immediate access by Windows. If virtual memory is low, you want to first check your hard drive to see if it is getting full. If it is, clean out all temporary and temporary internet folders. A full drive is any drive with less than 10% free space. If your drive is not full, you need to adjust your virtual file. Right click on My Computer and choose Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance. Click Advanced. Click Change under Virtual Memory. Now it gets tricky. Usually, Windows is set to manage virtual memory by itself. If this is the setting you have, you need to choose a custom setting. I have a low end of 2046 and a high end of 4092 on my computer. Basically, yoiu need to experiment a little to get it right. Don't make it too small, but don't make it too large, either. Good Luck!
