Some don't like the taste, for others it's health, but for many it's to protest how the farmed animals are treated.
Many chickens are kept in tiny pens where they cannot turn in a circle, sitting in their own feces, and injected with hormones to produce more and more eggs. They are forcefed to become fat so the eggs are larger. And then killed when they cannot produce them anymore.
As for the milk, similar issues. Dairy cows are often not led to pasture but given hay in the same places where they poop, eat and sleep. They do not get exercise or to see sunlight. And often, they are also injected with hormones and other chemicals to make their milk production higher.
So many vegans choose not to eat these products to protest how the animals are treated.
watch Peaceable Kingdom! I never used to understand why vegans saw eating meat and animal byproducts as morally wrong until I saw this video. it almost made me cry!...and I dont usually cry! now I am trying my hardest to transition into veganism...its hard but I know its worth it becaus I am saving lives of animals that have hearts and feel just like us.
I just watched the preview on youtube, it seemed to be just your standard propaganda video, only showing the worst points to try and make you fall for their cause, without giving any footage of the other side. All the footage seemed to show caged captive animals. However there was no mention of free range / organic farming, why not consume produces of humanely kept animals?

Just because something is free-range doesn't mean it's humane. Oftentimes, free range just means the animals are let out for X hours per day. And organic farming just means the animals aren't eating other animals, they get organic grain.
I live in the country side in South West Scotland, there are hundrends of farms around me, each with massive fields with live stock in. I do not know about your country but here we have very very high food standards, and free range does mean that the animal is free over a large range. There is no matter of them only being let out for a few hours, they are always out 24/7. Your Oftentimes sounds like it is based on these proraganda videos, which only show the bad farms. If you were presented with meat that had been born and bred in the open pastures of Scottish lowlands, would you eat it? What about eggs produced by chickens living in open fields brought in only at night to protect them? Or is it the actual eating of animals and their produce you're opposed to? Sorry, I'm just really curious. It's just I'm an omnivore (as I believe nature intended humans to be) and I just kind of want to know why people won't eat meat or animal produce.
You can be vegan for sevral reasons, some of which are:
1. You want nothing to do with the animal cruelty. Buy buying silk, wool, leather, meat, dairy, honey,---ANYTHING that has animal produducts or has been tested on animals, you are supporting the cruel and horrible businesses that torture animals.
2. You want to be healthy. High-protein things like red meat do not get fully digested and stay in your colon. Meat and dairy are extremely fatty foods. Your body runs better without them. I don't know of any other animal that drinks the milk of another animal, not of it's own species.
3. You have a concience.
4. You love and care for all living creatures.
Those are the reasons I became vegan!
b1ff, it doesn't matter...a dead animal is a dead animal. There is no nice way to kill anything. Roaming around in a pasture for 3 years before you are brutally slaughtered doesn't make much of a difference in the end.

Things staying in your colon is not a bad thing - fiber is not broken down at all, although that is good for you and keeps your GI tract functioning properly. Good lean meat (ie from an animal reared on fresh pasture and allowed to run around) is not particularly fatty, it is a fantastic source of iron and other essential vitamins and minerals (and it tastes fantastic!).
Saying that no other animals drink anothers milk is irrelevant surely? I don't know of any animals that can build/make computers... but we do. By your logic should we stop?
Roaming around in a pasture for 3 years before you are brutally slaughtered doesn't make much of a difference in the end.- It does make a difference to the animal, as it is only aware of it's life, and not what happens after its death. I don't see why you see it as ok for a dog to kill a rabbit but not a human a sheep.

Why don't vegans eat animal products?
I was just wondering why as a vegan you don't eat animal produce. Is there some moral reason or just because you don't like the stuff or what? Thanks.
