Why would someone need 50 screen names?

I guess Im naive to the wide world web. I have been doing some investigating of a family member. Can anyone give me a clue why someone would need or be using 50+ screen names. Some of them lead me to porn, erotic stuff. I have been quiet about my hunches, been an observe of these names. I want to be sure of my facts before I speak. Am I wrong to think that using 50+ names ==means == not up to something good? thanks ME

It's not necessarily something bad. Many people have multiple names on the internet if there are multiple places that they visit. Many people even have a couple of names per place that they visit. For example, I have a couple of names on YIM, a couple on AIM, and a lot more if you count all of the names I have on various forums. Sometimes people do it to avoid certain people. They might have friends on one name, then when they don't feel like talking to that person anymore, they switch to another. Also, sometimes people will create a new name if they can't remember their password and don't know how to retrieve it. Other people just like the variety of having a lot of different names to suit their mood.
