The law is there for a reason. A child's liver isn't as strong as that of an adult. I heard about a toddler whose parents gave him a bottle of beer. Sadly, he died from alcohol poisoning. I have a niece who'll be coming twelve soon. I think if I pictured her either drinking alcohol or smoking, I'd be horrified. Not only will you risk getting you and your parents into trouble, you could be making yourself fatally ill. It's not worth it and you aren't missing out on anything. You don't want to become the kind of person whose breath badly smells of alcohol. It can slowly change your personality too. Also, it makes you more vunerable to all the things happening around you. When some people get drunk they could be killed, kidnapped, raped or goodness knows what else. If you do decide to start drinking at your age and get caught, you could be taken away from your parents and put into a care home, or your parents could end up going to prison for being irresponsible. Think about it. You have too much to lose if you start drinking alcohol.

No - I dont think it's allright at all. Especially when the parents are the one's buying it for them. Although, were I live your parents can buy you a drink if they supervise you when you are 18 years old. I don't see anything wrong with that, but for a 13 year old.. come on.

no I am underage and I have drank before. but it came down on me wicked haed the next day. honestly you shouldn't drink until you are fully developed which is why they make the drinking laws. and smoking laws but I don't and never will smoke because thats how my grampy died.

I think that's insane for a 13-year-old.
Where I live the drinking age is 19 but when I turned 16-years-old my parents did occasionally buy the odd cooler for me if I stayed in my house which I saw nothing wrong with because they were here with me and usually 1 of my friends and I didn't leave the house. Now that I am legal I barley ever drink.

well if the parents are buying the alcohol for them, and they're gunna take the responsiblity for watching their 13yr old.. then sure, why not?, but the parents should really limit them to not drinking far too much ofcourse. I was like 12 when I first tried a bit of wine/champane... and like 16 when I tried Heinekins.

The drinking age should stay 21 because if it lowers to 18, people are going to start like showing up to school drunk and it'll be legal!!! also I think that people buying their kids alcohol is absolutely disgusting behavior.

I think it is very wrong and I have never drank any alcohol and im 13 and 1/2! wooohooo! and yes, I do like or agree on the drinking laws in my state, because alcohol can actually kill kids and there would be a whole lot more violence if the drinking laws were changed!

well, on New Years Eve I had 4 glasses of champagne, and I was fine, and I've drank before, so, I think it's fine as long as you're giving it to your own damn kid, don't go giving out Budweisers at their b-day parties!

There is a big difference between an 18 year old and a 13 year old though. Drinking laws are set for a reason.

Im really surprised at peoples reactions. In the UK its actualy LEGAL to drink in your own home at the age of 5. So people saying no its wrong, its bad, its illegal and you'll get taken away from your parents... well not over here. To me drinking with family in your own house is fine.

I think it's okay only if they drink in moderation.
I think the laws were set as a reason:
Mostly people under the age of 21 are not mature for their age. But some are, so you can't really judge EVERYONE.

I'll be honest, I do drink somewhat. I don't get drunk, I know my limit.

Most of all, drinking could lead to a serious problem. Drinking heavily will lead to serious consequences

Some parents are bad influences on their children, Drinking in front of them and heavily, getting drunk and driving teaches very bad morals for children. So if you are raised with it, there's a good chance you will think it's okay.

Yes drinking could lead to a serius problem but so could loads of other things- moderation is key I do admit that but I could fight that constantly having unprotected sex could leed to serious problems(teenage pregnancy or even childbirth at teenage years), constantly going on video games could give you sezures, eating too much could make you fat. Modertion is the way it should be

I think the drinking age should be 18, I'm 16 and me and my friends drink all the time. If your stupid and get out of controld then you shouldn't drink at all but like my friends parents have bought us alcohol as long as were under their roof and they can watch out for us but 13 is way too young

I dont know where all you guys are from but I live in Australia and the legal drinking age is 18. An 18 year old myself I think that 18 is fine but it might be just me to wait another 3 years would be overkill. I love how 21 stops younger kids drinking but can someone tell me why so many people dont agree with drinking at 18 same as gambling but allow driving at 16??

Answered by trollif on May 23, 2009, 04:46AM

to be honest, I think it's apserlootly fine for a teen to drink, in the house or outside. it's a choice of free will, and as long as you're mam and dad are happy then I suppose thats even better. I dont see it in a way that its bad, because of the group of friends im in. so I suppose half the time it's not you'r fault, its just wanting to fit in with the croud? although thats wrong, dont you think if it was so bad, teens would realise by now what damage it does to you?
