well... to start off...

-14x = 42

Well, the x is basically how much you have to multiply -14 by to get 42.
So, how many 14's are there in 42? 3 but then 3 x -14 would equal -42, and we want a positive 42 so we have to make the 3 negative as well.

So another way of writing this sum would have been

-14 x ? = 42

See? So the answer was -3.

Now for the second equation...

15x-18-12

Does it mean that you are using the answer for the first question to answer this one?
Well... if it does then you need to do 15 x -3 = -45
Then, -45 - 18 = -63
-63 - 12 = -75

So, if it is asking you to use the answer for the first question to answer the second then then answer for the second question is -75.

Hope this helped! =]

haha ok then... well you might have done it all ready... but anywayyy...

you need to do 12 +18 = 30
So now you need to find how many 15's you need to go into 30...
15 x 2 = 30... so...
x is 2 =D
