not sure but I heard something like that...I think that theres going to be only 1 king of cable and you need to buy it and than connect to the tv and I think thats it and another kind also is that you will be able to watch the cable for free if you have a plasma tv something like that I think...heard it on the tv a few months ago

No! You can still watch TV over the air but you do have to get a special converter that lets your TV pick up the HD signal.
At present TV stations transmit in 'analog' - next year in Feb. these transmissions will be in 'digital' - so if you TV is analog only, it will receive no signal unless it has a converter box or other means to convert it to a useable signal - this article explains it better:

Is it true that in 2009 you will have to at least have cable to watch TV, and you cant get it for free?
