I'm not sure, but there was something like that wrong with my internal sound thingy on a Dell Latitude d600, and it wouldn't bring it up..Apparently it was something wrong with the motherboard and eventually crashed, so I think that helps you about 0.

Troubleshooting i guess
My computer won't let me open up my volume mixer so I can mute the things I need so I can hear a specific window I have open. I guess my question would be, is there any other way to open the mixer besides the icon by the clock thing?
