Politically correct strikes again!!! Yes thats right there are no such things as terrorist anymore. OBAMA DID IT!!! HE GOT RID OF THE TERRORIST!!!

You gut-less liberals why dont you all move to Canada like you promissed and allow the real Americans to fix the country. Obama is a joke even the democrats are starting to realize that now. Don't try to justify Obamas actions or explain his logic because there is none in spending money on the rich, eliminating funding for military research and cutting defenses on the west coast.

Technically they are man-made disasters.
Man's actions caused them.

I like the idea of getting away from hearing terrorist this and terrorist that constantly.
The former administration's constant fear mongering focus on terrorist activities brought this nation to a level of hatred towards terrorists that was much like the red scare of the 40s and 50s.
I, for one, was tired of it. Everytime their ratings dropped, out came the talk about 9/11 and the terrorist problem.
We have a new administration that does not need to scare people into supporting their decisions, or use fear tactics to keep the american people so worried that they don't notice what is going on.

Amen utopia, well said...

The war on terror is anything but. It is war against arabs for their oil. If they had been truly trying to fight terrorism, much more effort would have been put to law enforcement measures rather than military action. Try to fight terrorism with conventional military is like trying to swat a fly with a hammer. The damage dane trying to fix the problem, is far far worse than the actually problem.

***that was much like the red scare of the 40s and 50s.***

I guess I'm missing something...How does one compare the Communist under every bed fear crappola of the 50's to what happened on 9/11? There's a vast difference between a possible commie in our midst...and 4000+ dead people in the heart of NYC and Washington DC...the US mainland, I might add (a first in history)...This should have scared the begeezus out of us...and I hope we don't forget how vulnerable we can be...we ought to be scared.

Call it whatever...what's in a name...it is what it is...

Phrannie, I refuse to be afraid of terrorism. Even with 9/11, the odds of dying in a terrorist attack are astronomical. Our leaders should have shown great resolve and determination in bringing the terrorists who attacked us to justice, but purposely instilling fear in the populace (as Bush did) has only one purpose. To make it easy to manipulate public opinion. Utopia said much like, not exactly like. The red scare was the same type of campaign as was used after 9/11. Only today it is directed at arabs, not commies.

Apples and oranges...how much manipulation does it take to instill fear in the general public, when 4000 folks just bit the dust? 9/11 was a first time EVER attack on the American mainland, by a handful of maniacs who had been in this country for months or years...there was no protocol, no precident for what to do or how to handle such a thing...Days later, on the heels the attack, there was the Anthrax scare (unrelated we now know), but at the time how would anybody know that? Scientists have been talking for YEARS about the vulnerbility of our food and water...Congress is very aware of this, as well as the threat of an E bomb...and has been for years.

I'd appaud you on your refusal to be afraid...the vast majority of Americans have gone back to doing what we do, the daily tasks before us...myself included...Remembering what happened isn't the same as being fearful...it's simply a heightened awareness...Keeping the facts straight, however will help keep us from a deluded sense of security...

again, you are missing the point. Anger and fear over that attack was perfectly normal, and absolutely should have been a wake up call to our vulnerabilities. But in the aftermath, the government was proactively keeping the fear level hightened. That is exactly what McCarthy was doing in the 50s. Keeping fear of a communist infiltrating our country at the forefront.

You are right, remembering what happened, and keeping vigilant is not the same as being afraid. But that is not what Utopia and I were saying. We were talking about the way Bush USED fears over 9/11 to further his agenda, just as McCarthy used fear of commies.

I tend to think of man-made disasters as unintentional. For example, deforestation or global warming.

Intentional disasters are acts of war/terror.

tseirpeht I completely agree with you like 110% Simply changing the names of certain unpleasant things to here just to reduce the fear of citizens will not get rid of the problem if anything it will only increase the problem people being to secure with what they have will do nothing but leave us open for another attack such as 9/11. And again your right even now the democrats are starting to relize this slightly socialist/facist unexperienced man they have voted in is doing nothing at all but further weekening us.

Anyhow just wanted to say I agree and also say I do disagree with changing terrorist to man-made disaster. Again changing the name will not relieve the problem.

please, spare us the big bad bush conspiracy theories. its rdiculous how bush has become the scapegoat of todays problems. this is even worse than hitler blaming jews for everything. o im in debt its bushs fault! o the terrorists are really just government agents controlled by bush! give me a break. BTW this is nothing like the big red scare. at least back then our enemies were uniform. we knew their origins and what they looked like. nowadays our enemies are dressed as civilians and come from germany to pakistan. you cant expect bush to get rid of terrorism when it comes in so many forms
