What's a free way to get website traffic?

How do you get thousands of visitors to your website in the easiest way possible for free?

Do something interesting with your website (eg, funny video, etc) and encourage people to send it to their friends. Remember the hamster dance some years ago? The thing was so viral & popular it even ended up as part of a TV commercial for Microsoft.

If you can make something go really viral by sending it to your friends...then, you'll get more traffic than you ever dreamed.

Submit your website to Google and Yahoo etc

As a starter, you can always design an 88 x 31 pixel graphic that represents your site and post it up on plugboards like plugboard.org. I get at least 30 hits a month from sites with plugboards.
