The "real" meaning of the term "tomboy"??

Hey. I've always been one to think that tomboys are simply girls who act like the stereotypical idea of how a boy should act, wear clothes that stereotyipically belong on boys, etc., but lately I've been hearing talk about how not many people really...

know what a true tomboy is...I just wanna know, before I really offend somebody--what's this true definition? Is a True Tomboy a girl who has a guy's haircut, feels uncomfortable wearing girly clothes, etc.??? That's what I'm starting to think this true definition is...but I'm NOT SURE...

The way I always understood it is just the disposition someone has not the way they dress by itself. They don't care about picking up worms and other things most girls consider gross. They talk and hang around other guys not so much with the girls. This doesn't mean they are gay. Just that they unconsciously do things like guys do.

heehee!! ^_^ it's hard to tell by the way I type, but I'm a tomboy!! I don't wear any girl clothes at all!! it's actually really strange and my friends (even my parents) hate me for it!! I've had people bring me girl clothes to wear at school!!! but I feel strange in girls clothing.. have you seen how tight it is?? even the loose clothing!!! it's horrid! but my baggy boy shirts are so comfortable!!! but most tomboys love their hair up and short.. not all, I LOVE long hair and having it down... I just do.. but, I wonder if this is the reason for me liking such feminine guys... ??? I really do, but to be sure, yes, I'm straight

it really depends what your opinions are, personally I think that a girl who is very sporty, doesnt wear makeup, dresses plain and casual, and just hangs more with guys then girls is a tomboy. many people have different definitions because there isnt an actual definition. hope this helped (:
