The real mccain?

How far we have come... Asked by jimahl about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

Which represents the real McCain campaign?

These recent quotes made at rallys?

Sarah Palin: “Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own...

country.”

Sarah Palin: This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America. We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism.

Or these:

McCain: I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States.

McCain after a supporter expressed fears that Obama is an arab: No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with, on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about.

So which is the real McCain?

Ok this is a little off topic, but...

McCain after a supporter expressed fears that Obama is an arab: No, ma'am. He's a decent, family man, a citizen

since when are the being an arab and a decent family man mutually exclusive? do arabs eat their babies? is it not possible to be both? sorry just had to point that out.

as for your question, he's obviously letting her do his dirty work for him...
or maybe he doesnt agree with her but he cant control her...
either way it's not a good sign

I absolutely agree ty. It is pure racism. But racism against arabs or muslims is somehow acceptable to conservatives. Imagine if she got up and said I don't trust him because he is black. Even conservatives would feign outrage over that. For conservatives, muslims and arabs are the new them.

Yes, she is doing the dirty work. And I think McCain is really no longer in control of his own campaign.

Thank goodness this fearmongering is only resonating with the most rabid conservative wingnuts.

For sure the attacks aren't working since Obama has continued to increase his lead. As of today, according to real clear politics, he is 8 points ahead nationally, his largest lead yet. And his electoral lead is 364 - 174.

***I don't trust him because he is black. Even conservatives would feign outrage over that***

And a HUGE majority of conservatives would be sincere in that outrage...including myself. Why do you keep using the label conservatives as some type of enemy? Idealology may be different, in some ways...fiscally, size of government, blah blah blah...but to insuate that conservatives...et al...are racists is absurd.

phrannie, you are right. I should have said neocons in that sentence, or not used the word feigned. Not all conservatives are wingnuts.

But the problem still is that there are many conservatives who might be outraged over someone saying I don't trust him because he is black, but wouldn't think twice about saying they don't trust him because he is an arab or muslim.

And Ty, you are right, Bush won (really stole, but that is another story) the election through fearmongering. In 2004 the country was still under the fog of 9/11. But you can only go to that well so many times. Ask Guiliani. It won't work this time.
