It's just a story - and not even a good one if you ask me.

The bible is full of contradictions, thousands of them. The bible is actually stories stolen from other relgions as well, if you research it you will see. It was also written WAY after any of the event supposedly happened and was based on stories that have been passed down by mouth.

It's silly.

Don't believe everything in zeitgeist- some of the stuff in there has been debunked.

I think the bible is probably one of the most interesting pieces of fiction to ever be published. Clearly some people find it such a great story, they choose to live their lives by it.

Not me though- If I had to choose a story book to live by, I'd choose something cooler... like 'The Wizard of Oz' (dude, flying monkeys!)

the second coolest person ever, Jesus is cooler than anyone. Answered by styxfan on Dec 07, 2008, 03:46PM

Dude, dont even talk like that, dont question your beliefs. The bible is total truth without a doubt, no bull. Either believe it or become an atheist, one of the suicidal atheists because thats the only good atheist.

I believe in the bible
I thinks that it is a good true story
but I see how everyone thinks its too hard to believe
but people who believe in the bible have faith in it and believe that you dont have to see to believe

never said I agree with everything in zeitgeist.
but its good to know whats out there instead of being ignorant.
when something is passed down to you like Christianity you automatically take it as truth and become ignorant to anything else. you either have knowledge or your ignorant. lol atheists rnt bad people, they actually search for truth unlike those that believe they alrdy know the truth. like people lately have been going around talkin bout zeitgeist which can be realistic and are skeptic about it. if the bible never existed and someone today went around talkin bout whats in the bible people would be skeptic bout it too. there are many things people cant explain in this world so it would make sense to search for truth. if you havent realized in a religious argument, no one can win..

The bible has been changed, the stories cames from other religions, translated several times. I dont see how anyone that knows the real history of the bible could think its true

Well...

It has scientific accuracies that today's scientist would concur with:

- The world is round (Isaiah 40:22)
- Law of entropy (Psalm 102:25-26)
- Hydraulic cycle (Job 36:27-28)
- Time had a begging (1 Corinthians 2:7)
- Public Health Maintenance Procedures
(the book of Leviticus and Deuteronomy)

Just to name a few
And keep in mind this book is tremendously old and this knowledge are things scientist have just started to discover in the last 50 years or so

There are archeological evidence for the stories in the bible such as the walls of Jericho and the Tower of Babel.

Historical documents outside the bible of gave account of the man named Jesus. Thousands have been discovered and tested for authenticity. We have many of the original manuscripts in which the bible was translated from. (the dead seas scrolls)

Translations in general are really difficult to do since greek and ancient hebrew writings are very difficult to translate into enlglish. This can account for the contradictions. It seems to give the realness of the literature in that its not a master-minded story written to deceive but it is a book that has been passed down from generation to generation.

It is made up of many authors and took a time span of at least 1,600 years to write the whole bible. This is quite remarkable if you consider the congruency of how all the stories.

AND yes, I am not going to disclaim that there are aspects of the Bible that are questionable. I wil say though that it does not mean an answer to these questions do not exist. New discoveries are capable of being made that can clear up this questions. BUT the very nature of finding an answer typically leads to more questions.

I would say this contributes more to developing faith (Hebrews 11:1). And the choice is yours.

If your are an empiricist, than the best thing to do is examine all the evidence and let your findings lead you to your faith.

For me, the Bible is a very powerful, accurate, and personal book that is unlike any book ever written.

any more questions should be researched at http://www.carm.org

May you continue to questions your doubts so that they may lead to certainty.

God Bless

If anyone who wasn't a Christian read the Bible objectively, they would not conclude it's good in any sense. It's crappy literature that rambles on endlessly about stupid ideas.

There's hardly anything redeaming in it at all.

no, its not JUST a good story, its God's word that he wants us to live by, and yeah, I live my life by it, and I have a WONDERFUL life. I mean, like if you study just a chapter of it, (ex. Acts) theres so many amazing things in it.

Let's see..

- The ancient greeks discussed the hypothesis that the earth was round as early as 400BC.
- They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed in no way describes entropy in any useful sense. The concept of entropy was developed around 1850, which is also a lot longer than 50 years ago.
- Job 36 describes the _hydrologic_ cycle in terms of make steam, and you can condense it back into water. Not exactly cutting edge - and hydrology has been investigated since 4000BC.
- Astrophysicists and cosmologists _don't_ universally agree on whether or not there's a 'beginning' to time or not.
- Yes, the ancient world had sanitation. So?

_None_ of your examples have been discovered in the last 50 years; most have been known for thousands, and in fact predate the bible.

If you really want us to believe the bible is 'ahead of its time', why not show us something that people learned how to do _because_ of the bible, rather than stuff that you claim the bible has knowledge of - but only after it was independently discovered?

I think a straight read-through of the Bible is far from being a 'good story' - it jumps about all over the place and is a collection of history, poems, advice etc. I do think that the core story, which is the one about God creating, loving, saving and sustaining his people, is really good. If you read the collection without that background, I agree that it probably seems pretty outlandish.
