Being different is great but it makes people nervous. Lots of people have low self-confidence and bad self-esteem so they lash out to people who seem weaker then they are. The thing is, you are stronger then they are because you can actually put up with their bullshit and move on. Don't let them get to you. Those very same people that abused you by calling you retard have their own shameful stories that you might never know. Some might be abuse by their parents or family members, some might be suicidal, some might be so afraid of everyone noticing what a loser they are that they pretend to be smarter then everyone else. lots of people get treated bad because they are different (ex.: immigrants, gay people, self made women) but it makes them strong and helps them make true and good friends. School is only a few years in your life, after you have so many more years to do other interesting stuff, meet new and nice people. Be patient and accept that being different can also be a great and wonderful thing! Learn from it and ignore all those who would keep you from reaching your dreams.
