hmmm that is a very tough decision. you should think about where you want to be years from now. where can each of those jobs take you. are they dead end jobs? are they jobs you can take a break from and go back to if you want to raise a family? you can always be a teacher and have pets, but as far as i know you cant be a vet and teach at a school.
Both of those professions are very admirable! It's really up to you--I know it's a tough decision, but you'll be doing that profession (generally speaking) for an extended period of time. Try shadowing a teacher and a vet. and see what the jobs are like--it'll give you a realistic view of what each profession involves. Either way, best of luck to you! :-) -S
Are you in school right now? You should be able to take classes in both areas, which will give you a taste for what each career realistically will consist of. The idea of shadowing a teacher and a vet is great! Both these careers are different in reality than they are portrayed on, for example, television. If you have a passion for math, but not kids, I would suggest being a teacher in the college level. However, if you have a passion for kids, you should absolutely do the secondary ed. route. I am a teacher, and I love it! However, I always knew what I wanted. As far as being a vet goes, are you passionate not only about the cuddly little animals, but also about the medical aspects of what would be your every day? You would have to deal with hurt animals, give shots, perform surgeries. Vets are often injured on the job. Let us know what you choose!
Wow..two very different professions. Although they share some similar traits, like being of service. The thing that helped me to decide my path was answering the following question...If the job could not pay you fopr a week, would you do it anyway? That's the job to go for.
If you prefer working with people, children in particular, then teach. Everyday is new and freash and don't forget you have summers and holidays off. This is the time when you could work part-time taking care of animals.
I might be a little bias, being that I am teacher.
