Teach a puppy to walk on a leash

I have a 6 month Bichon frise Puppy and when I put a leash on her she wont walk.
so how do I teach my puppy to walk with me around my neighborhood?

if its your dogs 1st time on a lead it will be a lil bit scared because its new for her we had the same problem with our puppy, try using treats when shes on the lead and you walk and she stops try pulling a treat out putting it under her nose and calling her, if she comes praise her and keeping doing this until she learns to walk on the leash, I did this with my puppy and now she walks really well on a lead. hope this helps xx

Do you mean she simply stops and won't walk at all?

She's 'protesting'...she doesn't want to be on a leash, and when you let her get away with that, in her mind, she's running the show.

You can use treats to entice her to move...wave in front of her while you tug the leash, call her name, or say 'come'...If she still doesn't move, pull (drag) her a few inches...calling her name or 'come'...She WILL walk if you repeat this a number of times...Once she realizes she's going to have some fun 'out there' she'll be doing a happy dance when she see's the leash.

I have a bichon frise as well. All we did was have him be on the leash in the house, without trying to walk him. After a few times and a few tries of walking him he now loves his leash & knows when he sees it hes going somewhere. your puppy will learn.

you have got to train it take time and take it on the leash and let it get used to it
