Tampons aren't for every body size and type. You may have to face the facts that you are stuck with pads. However there are a few tricks of the trade you can try. First off, if you are just starting buy the smallest tampon you can, with a curved plastic applicator. The applicators can make or break the tampon experience. If the tampon hurt when you took it out then you probably did not insert it deep enough. The vagina only has feeling in a small section and once you pass that you should not feel the tampon. Buy a box and (now this is going to sound weird) practice putting them in, sit, stand, lay on your back, which ever is the most comfortable for you. Also, make sure you are only leaving the tampon in for 3-4 hours, to prevent toxic shock syndrome. If after all of this it is still uncomfortable then find a pad you like, and stick with it!
Hope this helps, Good Luck!
