Hi ladies, I have been having this issue too. First of all, after looking everywhere online the first thing people say is that urine doesn't come from your vagina. I think most women know that. That said, I have been finding my tampons totally soaked with urine if I do not change them.
I'm in my 40's and have had this problem for about 6 months now. So this is something totally new for me. I have looked online to help resolve this issue. I am still not 100% sure why it happens, but, I think I have some clue why after all these years I have an issue.
At first I was thinking my tampons were not inserted properly. So, I took extreme special care to make certain they were all the way in as far as I could get them. In the past I have had that issue from time to time while rushing in public bathrooms. But I know for sure this is not the case now.
For me, I think the issue is caused by my weight. I have gained weight over the past few years and I notice that recently I do not sit on the toilet the same way I used to. It's really hard to describe, but since my rear end, my thighs, and everything else that area is a lot larger. I notice that when I pee, it streams downward on me not away from me like it used to. I now believe for me that this downward flow of urine goes right into the vaginal opening where it is absorbed by the tampon. Aside from changing every single time I can not find a way to avoid this issue.
Now for women who are not substantially overweight this issue might happen some other way. But it's not far off to guess that even if the uretha is located a bit above the vaginal opening, if the urine runs downward I am certain it could and would be absorbed by your tampons.
If you have this problem I would try making sure the tampon is in far enough, and maybe trying different brands. If none of those things helps, your best bet is to always change them every time you urinate.
Needless to say, I am pretty unhappy with this since I go to the bathroom frequently. What can I do? I would like to know if any other women have had this issue after gaining weight.
No you don't have to take it out. Urine comes from your Uretha, which is just above your vagina.
Here is an illustration.

for whatuwantx2 - nooo, girls don't pee out of the clitoris! the clitoris is a separate organ made of sensitive tissue and hidden under a hood above everything else, and nothing comes out of it (except pleasure haha). there are two canals down there, below it - one is the urethra, where urine comes out of, the other is the vagina, where your penis goes into and the baby comes out of. see the link that sikashimmer posted.
theres 3 holes and no you dont have to take it out but i have found out meaning {my experience peeing with them in} is that the pee will travel down the string and there is some that will go to ur tampon because it gets absorbed. I dont change them everytime i go to the bathroom like that sometimes because i dont have time and others school bathrooms are nasty lol. But I think people should.
Ok I have read everything that everyone says and medical stuff galore. Still, everytime I urinate with a tampon in, hardly anything drops into the toilet and my tampon comes out soaked and I HAVE to change it. Can anyone tell me what is going on here?
You may not have your tampon inserted correctly. Look at the insert that comes with the tampons. THe urine should not be able to even touch the tampon if it is in correctly.
thank you to e_crow, this actually makes perfect sense considering I recently gained 30 pounds and am now having his problem also, its nice to see someone who actually answers a question and doesnt just say pee doesnt come out of your vagina, well duh.
