Taking her to the school dance

I really like this girl and I want to ask her out
and I want to know if asking her to the school dance a good idea or there are other better ideas

if you like her I say you ask her to the dance, see how things go there, and if they go good then ask her out. if you're nervous about asking her to go or something, just ask her to dance with you when you see her there. :-P
