you can go online and download for free one of the best virus protection programs called AVG

avg is free also norton is great too.

 
You should have a good anti-virus program that you run at least once a week (daily if other people use your computer or you do a lot of browsing and downloading on the net).

You should also have a good spyware program which you should run at least once a week.

You should also have a good Registry Cleaner program which you should run at least once a week.

I use all of the programs listed below. Besides being good programs, and FREE, you also have the ability to continue working on your computer (online or offline) while the program is running.

For viruses: NOD32. Faster than Norton and doesn't use up computer cycles like Norton. Free ones are AVG and Avast. (NOTE: Only have one anti-virus on your system. Multiple ones can cause problems.)

For anti-spyware: 'Spybot:Search and Destroy' , 'Spyware Blaster', and 'Ad-aware' all free. Run periodically. Have them run once a week or so.

For fire-wall: Zone Alarm is free and is a two-way firewall. Much better than XP's one-way firewall.

If you run P2P programs, run Peer Guardian 2 before you launch your P2P.

I also run Google toolbar for it's ad-blocker PLUS it's spell checker.

I have been using Kaspersky with a two year license, it works great.

avg is the best free antivirus you can get. together with spybot it works excellent. I am not a fan of norton. really slows up you pc. bit defender is also a good antivirus.
