If it's something general, for example for a class you're taking, maybe you could talk about some things that happened on 11th May.

Here's a partial list (see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_11 , which goes all the way back to Byzantium)

On 11 May 1997, IBM's supercomputer Deep Blue makes chess history by defeating Gary Kasparov, the chess champion widely regarded as the greatest ever chess player. The Russian master conceded defeat after 19 moves in the sixth game of the tournament, losing the match 2.5 to 3.5. It was the first defeat of a reigning world champion by a machine in tournament play. Big Blue, which can analyze 200 million chess moves a second, had met Kasparov once before, but the human held his own against the machine. Before their second meeting, Kasparov had never lost a professional chess match.

What about something everybody knows about, like how mad the world is going about this swine flu, you could talk about the statistics of how many people have caught it and how they reacted to the treatment. Failing that you could stick to somethng basic like animal right, abortion and smoking in public places happy
