boyfriend but he's always telling me how much he cares about me and that he loves me, even thought we've been dating for about 3 months. I want to still be friends with him, but I want to date someone else that I've known since elementary school. I'm pretty sure he likes me back, but I don't know what to do. If you're planning on breaking up with this guy, make sure you're doing it for the right reason.

It's one thing to end the relationship because you just aren't compatible, but doing it for the sole purpose of dating someone else can only end badly.

If you're not happy with your boyfriend, then end it - consequences will arise, but you'll deal with them as they come. I would advise you to at least take a few weeks before you start dating someone new, however.

Would like to stress the 'wait a few weeks' part, preferably more than a few weeks if you want to try to be friends with him still. Hurts like an SOB to be dumped for another guy.

I know, and I really REALLY don't like being in a relationship with him. It's suffocating sometimes. I feel like he's holding me back and changing who I am. If I do break up with him, I will wait a while before I date anyone else. I've been through enough relationships to know what it feels like to be dumped for another person.
He's really jealous too. If I talk to other guys, he immediately assumes I have a thing for them or that they have a thing for me, so he starts making statements about how he's going to beat the crap out of them if they even try to do anything. It scares me because I have several guy friends and he reacts the same way with all of them.
