Smoking

Me and my brother Asked by asdfg63plus1 11 months ago, 5 answers.

Hello, I have a friend that recently smoked for her first time on Sunday night. I was talking to her about it and was concerned but she said it'll be fine and she's only going to do it every once in a while. So I was curious, how much smoking every...

smoking starts affecting a person as soon as they smoke the first one. it could really damage her lungs and chances are she going to get more addicted to them and start to smoke more than once in a while.

Who's that? Oh, me. Answered by maddie1414 on Dec 23, 2008, 10:01AM

Smoking every once in a while is still very unhealthy. Every cigarette takes aproximately 7 mins off of your life. So, let's say she smokes only a pack a week. Well, the average number of cigs in a pack is 20. That's 140 mins off her life every week! Think how that can add up over a year? Over three years? Most smokers smoke a pack a day and that can easily turn into her habit, not to mention risks of lung cancer, bad breath, birth defectancy, yellow teeth, wrinkles sooner in life, bloodshot eyes, etc.

If I were you I would try my best to get this friend to reconsider.

Well, she definitely doesn't smoke a pack a week. When she smoked on Sunday, it was a hookah and she said she only took 4 small puffs. Then yesterday, she was hanging out with the same people and just took one puff from each of their blacks. But there were only two of them that time. I've tried talking to her, but she's also my ex-girlfriend, and for some reason, she doesn't seem to be liking me very much lately, so she isn't going to listen to me most likely.

Women smokers are more prone to many debilitating and fatal diseases than men. In comparison, discussions on women smoking to men smoking showed a disturbing truth – women are more susceptible to their early deaths than men counterparts. Take cases of lung cancer incidents. Records show a decrease on male victims while it is a steady rise for women victims.

The dangers of smoking are out in the open. Everybody knows about it, even smokers themselves. And there is quite a large percentage of people who are hooked into the habit. For years and years, they have been smoking, and at a certain point they know they should do it- quit.

As they say, a habit is easily formed, but it takes quite a struggle to break it. If you have been into the smoking habit for years, you may wonder if you can really quit successfully. Many smokers like you want to quit, but they are looking for the best means to do so.
There are smokers who try to quit spontaneously and abruptly- on their own. This is called the “cold turkey” method. What do statistics show when it comes to this quitting method? It only has 5% rate for success, which is rather low. What has been said about quitters who failed and smoke again is that they become more more chronic smokers afterwards.

So trying to quit on your own isn't likely to be a good idea. You would have a 95% chance for failure by quitting on your own, and you'll have more tendency to have a bigger smoking problem in the long run. It always pays when you devise a scheme or a program in wanting to achieve a goal.
