I think your numbers are a little off. The Burj Dubai which started its construction on September 21, 2004 is currently the tallest building and freestanding structure to ever be built on the planet. It surpassed the height of the Taipei 101 on July 21, 2007. The taipei 101 is about 509 meters which is 1,671 feet. On september 12, 2007 the Burj Dubai surpassed the CN tower which is 555.3 meters or 1,822 feet. This is when the Burj Dubai became the tallest building and freestanding structure ever built on the face of the planet in its 4.54 billion year history. Currently as of February 5, 2008 the Burj Dubai is 604.9 meters tall which is approximately 1,985 feet tall. When the building is finished on December 30, 2008 it will be the tallest building, freestanding structure, or manmade structue of any sort to be built on the face of the Earth. It is estimated that the Burj Dubai will be somewhere between 818 to 950 meters tall which is equivalent to 2,684 to 3,117 feet tall, almost three times the size of the Empire State Building.

You are right...I miscalculated the meters to feet conversion...but there is a good utube video of time lapse showing construction.
