Should we add the "online now" next to member photos more often?

Jeremy Goodrich yep, that's me Asked by thedude about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

When people are online on your profile page, we show online now below their member name. Should we do that on the category pages? The groups pages?

It's also on the members page where you can search for people, etc...I find it nice to know, but not...

sure if it would be important enough to people to add to our to do list. Thoughts?

I don't know.
Wouldn't really make a difference to me personally. When I want to know who's online I usually go to Members. Or, if I want to talk someone I just look on their profile to see if they are online. I also look on my profile's Friends' Activity to see who is online to talk to out of my friends. I personally don't really care who's online that isn't one of my friends (I don't mean that in a rude way at all, so excuse me if it came out wrong.)

I do have a request though that involves online statuses though...
Sometimes emergencies come up where one of you people need to be contacted. On the members page, I think it should show users online that can deal with technical problems right away. Like the admin people and tech people. Sometimes things happen and I have to sit there refreashing members every 2 minutes trying to find help with whatever the problem is.

I know these sites can be competitive and if someone from another site comes and starts messing with things, someone needs to be contacted immediately. Usually at all times there is atleast one admin and tech person on, its good for us to know who it is so we can report emergencies instead of scavenging through the members page.

I think it is a great feature.

Actually if someone got an answer that they would want more details on, it may be a nice idea that they know you will get back with them right away

YEAH... it's about time... (Just kidding)

I think it's a great idea. I'll like that feature! It's nice to know people are in here while I'm in here.

Thanks for asking for our opinion.

Hm, we'll see what we can do. Having somebody on staff, round the clock...that's a lot bigger ask than we can honestly do currently.

However, we do have a feature that will help with content related issues coming in a few days in a major way happy

Re: bugs, etc...most of the time, we don't have major 'bugs' per se, but things could have been done better, or after a release, we end up with some issues that a few times have persisted for 12 hours+.

Anyway, I'll get a mock up together add the more prevelant online status messages to the category page as well, and perhaps the question page if we can figure out how to make it look nice.
