Should I start another band?

Im currently in 3 bands. An all around rock trio with my brother and grandpa, a progressive metal band, and the band that I started.

The only reason im in the progressive metal band is because its my brother's band and they didnt know any bassists.

The band that I started, I feel is being held back because our guitarist is stuck in the 60s, 70s, 80s he will not listen to any band from the 90's/2000s. I want the band that I started to go more towards the metal direction, like avenged sevenfold, bullet for my valentine. But still do some of the classics.

Should I just start another band with just a different guitarist or kick my friend out of the band?

My friend is deffinitly one of the best guitarists in my school and he's a good friend. I've kicked people out of bands and you all know how that goes. Once you do it, you're not friends. Well at least thats how it goes for me.

So what should I do?

That's a tough decision that only you can make. What's more important to you, your friendship or another band? If you start another band, that's more responsibility for you, but if you kick your friend out you'll lose his friendship and have to find another guitarist. Have you told your friend that you think if the band is going to progress you need to play stuff of today's music?
