show her you want to eat beans and stuff to make up for the protein
If you're considering becoming a vegetarian, you have to think about a lot of things first.
As you've said, your mom always cooks meat. If your mom can't or won't cook meat-free meals for you, you either have to refuse her meals, or pick out the meat yourself. Refusing might cause some tension between the two of you, so I wouldn't recommend that.
You have to think about your health as well. Meat contains fats and proteins that your body needs, but those can be supplemented by other foods. The major concern is getting the vitamins you need, especially b12. It's a B vitamin contained only in meat and almonds, and is important to your health. Take a multi-vitamin to keep yourself healthy, or else you will suffer some unpleasant side effects.
If you do decide to go through with it, good for you. They do some crappy things to animals before they kill them, and feed them some pretty nasty things. Just don't get down on yourself if you can't resist the urge to eat a chicken sandwich or a burger every now and them. It's natural to give in every once in a while, humans naturally crave meat.
Being a vegetarian is better for you, better for the animals, and better for the environment.
If your family is not supportive than it can be tough for a 13 year old to go it on her own.
I've been a vegetarian for 28 years. I didn't become a vegetarian until I was 19 but whenever I stayed with my folks I basically cooked my own meals. A few times my mom modified recipies to make them vegetarian but most of the time I made my own entre.
Its very good thinking for your future health.here in india so many pranayama classes are being tought in different states.in that class you will learn yoga&eating vegetebles for 45 days.So you would leave eating cooked food whether it s veg are non veg,I mean you should eat only natural vegetables& fruits. You cant eat even cooked vegetables.Just observe d difference in your health after 45 days. You will feel calm, relaxed&active in all your activities. If you have any health probleme even such health hazards should be cured.
Be careful, because an un-planned vegetarian diet could cause you to put on a lot of weight - that's because many 'vegetarian option' meals in restaurents are based on cheese which is at least as fatty as meat. So if you want to go vegetarian you do need to research it properly and make sure you get a balanced diet.
My guess is that the weight gain could come from how your mother cooks meat (fried, possibly) rather than from the meat itself. You might just make a lot of progress by adopting a generally healthy diet with reduced fat and sugar as well as less meat.
Vegetarianism does not gaurentee weight loss. Do not do it for that reason. In fact when I became vegetarian I gained weight.
Become a vegetarian because its soemthing you want to do for a reason such as the animals or environment.
Convincing moms is hard. What I did is researched it majorly ensuring I figured out how to get all the vitamins and protein I needed. The more research you have prepared the better an 'argument' you'll have to convince her.
Good luck it'll be a hard fight but all vegetarians go through it at one point. Heck, I'm still going through it.
