Teenagers were having sex long before television came along. Before Elvis shook his hips suggestively, teenagers were having sex. Before miniskirts, teenagers were having sex. Before jazz music and pot and tlts in video games and R-rated movies on cable and women wearing slacks and not riding side-saddle and drive-in movies and the lambada, TEENAGERS WERE HAVING SEX.
In the 1300s in Gaul, they were having sex, in 3,000 BC in Outer Mongolia, they were having sex, and in 1938 in Poland, even as the Nazis were tramping across the border, they were still having sex.
Teenagers are not influenced to sex because a guy in a gum commercial got laid. Teenagers have sex because every cell in their body is screaming at them to do so. There is not a single teenager who saw cleavage in a Coors Lite ad and had THAT be the influence that tipped them over the edge into hedonism.
Romeo and friggin Juliet were 13, their families were involved in a generations-long bloody feud, and they STILL had sex. Shakespeare got it. Why is it so difficult for everyone else? Let me sum up--
THE SIGHT OF A NAKED BREAST DOES NOT MAKE PEOPLE HAVE SEX. THE FACT THAT SEX FEELS INCREDIBLE MAKES PEOPLE HAVE SEX.
EDIT -- and as far as that condom commercial goes, the message is not go have sex. It's since you're already having sex, do it safely. Your interpretation -- no offense intended -- is colored by the glasses of sexual immaturity.
sammz08 -- I completely agree, they are incredibly irritating. The gum commercial I used in my example was the most over-the-top example, and it's always annoyed me. The commercial played out like -- man sits on fire escape, pops piece of gum, and half-dressed woman immediately oozes out of her window, walks over to him, and begins making out with him.
Now, while I don't think they're going to cause any more sex to happen because of that commercial, I'm pretty outraged that they think I'm so simple that I'll fall for a chew this gum and women will f--k you message. That's just lazy advertising, that is.
Simply a Rose to brighten your day,
And maybe lessen the cares in your way;
And also, too, to help you to know,
That in knowing you, many others grow!
Well, I guess I have to disagree with Mikeh about the influence. Granted a single commercial isn't likely to influence a kid. However, what does influence them is the totality of the commercials viewed over their total upbringing. The commercials make it seem that sex is ALL that life is about and that you should experience it as soon as possible.
That said, I still don't believe in GOVERNMENTAL censorship of the commercials. If you allow government to censor one thing then it takes advantage and starts censoring everything.
The solution is for the private citizens to form groups against those types of advertisements and use their mass power to boycott the sponsors of those commercials AND the stations that air them. If the sponsors started realizing that the public was boycotting their products because of their commercials, they would change to better commercials. So, too, if the stations saw that they were starting to lose viewers because of those types of commercials, then they might start refusing to air those types of commercials.
Governmental censorship is wrong, but censorship by the public in general is very permissible.
well its blatantly obvious what all those phone adds are about
the fact is though that sex is in almost every add
in way way or form
its also in the media, magazines, the music they listen to and the movies they watch
its almost everywere
and the standards are getting lower every year
schools desperatly need better sex education
because with everything going on around them
there going to be wanting to try it sooner than they should
Yes, I do think it should be banned from t.v. and for everyone who thinks its okay is sick just because they were doing it back in the 50's doesn't make it right it's a lot more going on.I have three kids 6,8 and 9 so I would like to sit down with them and talk to them about sex before I let the t.v teach them so for every one who feels its okay I have two words for you GROW UP

Sex related adverts on tv. do you think it should be banned?
I hate all the s*x related stuff on TV its getting really annoying, like those averts saying text 'FLIRT' to get hot pictures (I pity anyone who does) there on every channel and theres always about 3 or 4 of them shown in a row , also a lot of...
underage children are starting to have s*x and then go boasting about it to people in school (believe me I know) I think that it has something to do with the amount of s*x realated things being shown. Do you think they should ban adverts promoting s*x? And I don't know if anyone has seen the condom advert with teens in saying get respect, wear a condom Its basically saying to them have s*x but wear a condom, even if they do wear one their still underage. What do you think about it?
