When used correctly, condoms are between 90-96% effective against pregnancy. This is a pretty high statistic, and the chances of you getting pregnant while using a condom are slim. If you're new to sex and condom usage, make sure you familiarize yourself with the instructions on the label to prevent any mistakes. Also, consider what type of condom would be more suitable for your personal needs. A condom that's coated with a spermicide may be more effective against pregnancy than one that isn't. When it comes to contraceptives, you can never be too careful.
If you want something more effective, try the birth control pill which is over 99% effective when used correctly. The statistics of the birth control pill are a little more comforting, but you should be fine if you use a condom, just as long as you make sure to use it correctly. Hope this helps :-)

Condoms are about 88% effective. ( 12% failure rate )

Thats the thing with sex and protection, you don't know if it will work for sure. But if you do plan on using condoms are your form of birth control make sure you have the phone number of a family planning clinic or gyno so that if the condom does break you can get the emergency contraceptive pill(morning after pill) as soon as possible to prevent a pregnancy.

Condoms do sometimes work but just to be safe you should either already use some other type of birth control or strap twice.
