Should I change my sarcastic personality?

So the majority of my personality and sense of humour is purly based on sarcasm. But my mother doesn't appreciate my sarcasm and has recently asked me to try to stop being sarcastic because sometimes she finds it hurtful. What should I do? Should I change my personality in order to stop 'hurting' my mother? Or should I just stay the way I am but risk mine and my mothers relationship depleating?

Help!!!

Dear nothingness,
Your are very fortunate to have a mother who is honest with you and have just given you the advice that may save you many relationships in the future. Take what she says to heart. I don't know anyone who is perfect and we all work on our weak points daily. This is one of yours and you need to work on it. You must think before you speak; give yourself time when speaking with people to think would what I say be hurtful. If there is any question then don't say it. Practise not being sarcastic...practise makes perfect. It is not changing who you are, we are not born being sarcastic but for some reason you feel rewarded when you are? Counselling is a great place to get some insight as to why you feel this way and ways to change your attitude not your personality.
Sue...good luck

As always, sue90 is dead on.
My wife used to be sarcastic. Then she realized that when she put people down or insulted them she was doing it so that she would feel better than them. Sick hugh? Thank God she came to her senses and if someone did something that she would have done diferently she finds something good to say about it and then asks them to help her improve on whatever it was. It is easy to judge but hard to praise. What would you rather have. Praise or criticism? Think about it and give praise a try.
Bless you dear
Gino
