Samsung gravity

So, I really want a samsung gravity but the reviews are scaring me. I am a huge texter so this phone would be great. But is the calling quality really that bad? And I see people by it for $50..but where..because it is $279 at the t-mobile store, at...

least that's what my boyfriend said. And I heard you can't turn some of the sounds off..like when you send a text. But I text during school so I can't have that. Is there really no way you cab turn all the sounds off?
